O ramal ferroviário da Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro de Piracicaba: aspectos de sua história desde a idealização até as instalações remanescentes no município de Nova Odessa – SP

Abstract

The railway branch of the Piracicaba’s Paulista Railways Company played an important role for local economic development. The purpose of this paper was to demonstrate the growth story of this important railway company, but with a strong vocation for what is currently classified as a multimodal transport operator. To this end, a qualitative research was carried out and could be classified as exploratory, descriptive and interpretative through bibliographic research, field research and documentary. The article demonstrates the historical evolution of the Paulista Railways Company with the development of the Piracicaba branch, finding evidence of the application of Business Management concepts. Throughout its rich history, the company has made important technological contributions in the area of ​​steam traction, locomotives and boats, as well as contributing to local economic development and the development of its employees and neighboring communities.
